Figura’s Evening Sculpture Program
Are you interested in becoming a figurative sculptor but don't know where to start? Perhaps you have prior experience but are struggling to reach the next level on your own.
For those who wish to follow a structured sculpture program but cannot commit to full-time study, we have designed an evening program. This program enables you to learn the methods of classical European academies of Fine Arts with a schedule that's easy to combine with your other commitments.
What we offer
The program is divided into three terms, each following a progressive learning structure. You will be guided from your initial steps in clay to sculpting the human figure and portrait from life through a series of assignments. These assignments will gradually become more complex as you grow more confident.
The Evening Program is taught by Sergio Tomasa
While the program is designed with progression in mind, as in every artistic discipline, practice is key. Each term can also function independently once the student is familiar with the fundamentals taught in the first term.
In case you are looking for a more intense training: take a look at our Complete Sculpture Program. Our part-time, two-year program that covers all the essential aspects of figurative sculpture.
What you will learn
Fundamentals (fall)
In the fall term, you have the option to sign up for a proper introduction to the foundational principles that underpin the entire method. You'll work on assignments that emphasize observation and the development of an internal dialogue that will guide your decision-making as a sculptor. This term will primarily involve working from plaster casts, as we believe this is an important initial step before working from life models. You will be sculpting after original copies of the facial features of Michelangelo’s David!
Have you completed the fundamentals or would you prefer to work from live model? Then you can sign up for our figure or portrait terms.
Figure (fall / spring)
Work exclusively from live models, focusing on developing a strong sense of structure and gesture. This foundation will provide the perfect framework for studying anatomical details in the later stages of the process.
Skull / portrait (winter)
Apply your newfound skills to the study of portraiture through various assignments. They will help you understand the bony structure, planes, and nuances of facial features, both from casts (the skull!) and live models.
Calendar
Monday and Wednesday from 19:00 to 22:00 h.* Fall term starts on the 14th of September.
* model session ends at 21.30 h, after which the students will review and wrap up their work.
